1st through 4th grade · families welcome

Every child is an explorer. We give them a trail.

The Adventurer Club is a Seventh-day Adventist ministry for children in 1st through 4th grade (about ages 6 to 9) and the parents who love them. One evening a week, kids discover God's world, earn real badges, learn to serve, and eat supper together as families.

What is the Adventurer Club?

Adventurers is the younger sibling of Pathfinders, and it grows the whole child: spirit, mind, body and heart. Along the way kids earn real awards in crafts, nature exploration, outdoor camping, recreation, home arts and Bible study, the kind of things a six-year-old actually wants to do.

My God

Bible stories, memory verses, prayer, and sharing what we learn. Kids find out the Bible is Jesus' message to them.

My Self

Each child is unique and valuable. Healthy choices, good feelings and bad ones, fitness, manners, hygiene.

My Family

Families care for each other. Safety, stewardship, chores, family worship, and a Family Blessing service each year.

My World

Good friends, community helpers, nature walks, caring for creation, and serving other people.

Who it is for

The club is open to 1st through 4th graders this year: Busy Bee, Sunbeam, Builder and Helping Hand. The two youngest levels, Little Lamb (pre-K) and Eager Beaver (kindergarten), open as soon as a volunteer leader signs on for each. A child starts at the level for their grade, so a second-grader joins as a Sunbeam without having to go back and earn the younger levels first.

Every level has its own workbook, its own colour, and its own set of stars, chips or awards to earn. Volunteer leaders run the program on club night, so there is no homework and nothing for parents to prepare; families just come and enjoy it.

Why it is worth your Tuesday night

Reasons families keep coming back.

For your child

  • Real accomplishment. Badges are earned, not given. A Busy Bee who finishes Friend of Animals knows exactly what she did to get it.
  • Faith that sticks. The Pledge and Law become habits: be obedient, be kind, be cheerful, be reverent.
  • Confidence outdoors. Nature walks, camping with you, fire safety, first aid, compass and map.
  • A place to belong. A uniform, a sash, a level, and friends who are on the same trail.

For your family

  • Supper is on us. Every club night ends with a simple vegetarian meal at 5:45 for Adventurers and their families. One less dinner to plan.
  • Leaders run the program. Trained volunteer leaders teach the honors and run club night; parents are not asked to help unless they sign up as a volunteer.
  • No homework. Everything happens on club night; nothing is sent home to finish, and nothing is expected of parents beyond showing up.
  • Family Network. Parent evenings with practical help on parenting, hosted by people who are in the same season.
  • The Family Blessing. Once a year you tell your child, in front of the church, what you treasure in them.

What a year looks like

  • September kick-off: Pledge, Law, Song, uniforms.
  • Fall and winter: My God, My Self, My Family, safety awards, a fire station visit, Christmas caroling.
  • Spring: My World, nature, the Oregon Conference Camporee / Family Fun Day.
  • May: Investiture, where every Adventurer receives their class pin in front of everyone who loves them.
