First Aid Helper

What do you do when a friend scrapes a knee, gets a nosebleed, or a bee sting? This month every Adventurer learns the calm, simple things a kid can do first, and when to run for a grown-up.

Clean it, cover it, call a grown-up.

Why kids love it

  • They feel capable. Knowing what to do is the opposite of being scared.
  • Real supplies. Bandages, gauze, gloves and an ice pack to open, use and put back.
  • Practice on each other. Pretend scrapes and pretend bumps, real bandaging, lots of giggles.
  • A kit to keep. Each Adventurer packs a small first aid kit to take home.

What we will do

  1. Who to call. When to get an adult, when to call 911, and what to say: your name, where you are, what happened.
  2. Scrapes and cuts. Wash, dry, cover. Why clean hands and clean water matter.
  3. Bumps, bruises and nosebleeds. Ice, rest, lean forward and pinch. Practised in pairs.
  4. Stings, bites and burns. Cool water for burns, cold pack for stings, and the signs that mean get help fast.
  5. Pack your kit. Build a pocket first aid kit and explain each item to a leader to earn the award.

Parents: a kit list comes home the first week so you can restock the one your child packs.

Stars, chips and awards are the Adventurer badges: Little Lambs earn stars, Eager Beavers earn chips, Busy Bees and up earn awards. Official requirements are in the leader's guide; younger levels join every activity and count it toward their own level.
