Handicraft

Glue, yarn, paint, wood and a little patience. This month the kids make real things they can keep or give away, and learn that a project that takes three club nights is worth more than one that takes three minutes.

Make something real with your own hands.

Why kids love it

  • They make something real. Not a worksheet: a woven mat, a painted box, a knotted bracelet.
  • Different crafts for different kids. Several stations, so the child who hates glue can be the one who loves yarn.
  • A gift to give. One project is made to give away, which is the best part of January.
  • Tools, properly. Scissors, a hole punch, a glue gun with a leader: handled safely and put away.

What we will do

  1. Pick two crafts. From the stations: weaving, bead craft, painting, simple wood, paper craft.
  2. Learn the tools. How to hold, use and put away each one safely.
  3. Finish both projects. One for you, one to give to someone.
  4. Show and tell. Each Adventurer presents one project and says how they made it.
  5. Craft night for families. The last January meeting: parents sit down and make one too.

Wear clothes that can get paint on them this month.

Stars, chips and awards are the Adventurer badges: Little Lambs earn stars, Eager Beavers earn chips, Busy Bees and up earn awards. Official requirements are in the leader's guide; younger levels join every activity and count it toward their own level.
